New Braunfels
Elderhostel Program

Adventures in Lifelong Learning

PROGRAM

Twice a year, in February and March the members of the Historic Museums Association invite Elderhostelers to join them in enjoying the rich history of New Braunfels and the German influence in south central Texas.

Each day we will begin our program at 9:00 AM. We will be back at the hotel by 3:00 PM to give you time for revisiting places of interest. We will gather at 6:00 PM for dinner and evening entertainment. It is an informative but leisurely week which we believe your will enjoy.

The Plaza

We begin the program with a brief history of our city. From there we may tour the city to get a feel for the historic buildings and magnificant rivers passing through it. We will tour the First Protestant Church, spend time in the Sophienburg Museum & Archives, Conservation Plaza and the Handmade Furniture museum.

Gruene Mansion

We will visit the village of Gruene and perhaps do a little shopping at the General Store, visit Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas or roam the fascinating streets of the town.

We will stroll through the lovely Landa Park, learn some more area history, view the largest spring in Texas and perhaps feed the ducks and geese.
